MAKINO REINTRODUCES EDNC43S RAM EDM

Special Configuration Machine Packages Many Popular Technological Advancements

Makino is reintroducing the EDNC43S Ram EDM machine to incorporate a number of popular technological advancements all into one affordable package. The new EDNC43S will incorporate the latest in HQSF™ , Super Spark™ , single page programming and carbide machining circuitry technology all within the popular MGH controller and option EDCAM Professional™ offline programming software.

This Makino EDNC43S will be on display at the 2004 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, September 8 through 15. Visit the main Makino Booth #8400 in Hall A of the SouthBuilding to see the machine and the additional technology, or the EDM Pavilion Booth #4110 in Hall D for other machines exhibiting HQSF, Super Spark and EDCAM Professional.

Special EDNC43S Features

This new EDNC43S special configuration machine incorporates the newest version of the MGH controller, which includes a touch screen operation, Ethernet interface capability and single-page programming to assist both the experienced and the novice craftsman. Operator interface is enhanced by the addition of a number of technological advancements from Makino as standard features.

Super Spark™ and Super Spark II™ software are part of the package on the EDNC43S. These software advancements can respectively cut roughing and finishing time by a combined 60 percent.

The Makino machine also comes with the popular HQSF™ high-quality surface finish technology, which uses a proprietary, environmentally safe powder additive that is mixed with the dielectric fluid to improve electrical conductivity for more consistent discharging. This eliminates secondary discharges that waste energy and allow increased efficiency of the sparks, to achieve a superior finish without a loss in metal removal rates. In addition, the HQSF technology allows for achievable surface finish capabilities that are 50 percent better than that of conventional achievable surface finishes, regardless of discharge surface area. And, the newly introduced EDNC43S comes with a special carbide machining circuitry package that can reduce the burning of hard alloys by up to 60 percent. A 16-station tool changer and an MRC-axis for indexing and rotation capabilities are also standard.

This EDNC43S setup can also be configured with EDCAM Professional™ offline programming solutions software as an option. This software can help reduce human error in burn programs. This in turn will reduce scrapped mold components while increasing machine shop efficiency and dramatically reducing overall programming time by 70 percent.

Standard Features

The compact and versatile EDNC43S has a 27.6 x 19.7 inch (700 x 500mm) fixed table and a 2,200 lb. (1,000kg) maximum table load. The fixed table enhances machining rigidity. The head provides axis travel of 17.7 x 13.8 x 13.8 inches (450 x 350 x 350mm). The three-axis head and square-type axis travels make it easy to set up, center and "trig out" a job.

The machine bed is a heavily ribbed, single piece casting. Anti-friction linear guides and bearings complete the high-performance design, combining excellent rigidity with low-mass dynamics. The "Drop Tank" design pioneered by Makino makes for easier set-ups and more versatile operation.  Machine precision and response is superior when compared to machines that move the table and dielectric fluid.

Creative engineering, heavy-duty construction and advanced control technology allow high machine productivity, superior machining accuracies (± 0.00020"/0.005mm positioning and ±0.000080"/0.002mm repeatability), and the best guaranteed finishes (2 m inch) in the industry.
