MAKINO LAUNCHES EDMMATTERS.COM BLOG

Makino has launched a weblog for all EDM users at www.EDMmatters.com. The blog
will cover topics such as EDM technology, machine design, consumable use, and
other topics related to EDM.
“It’s amazing the conversation this format has spawned,” said Jeff Kiszonas,
EDM product manager for Makino and the main author of the blog. “We’re seeing
many machinists and shop owners come to us, wanting a dialog on this topic. A
blog is an effective way to fulfill that need.”
This blog is the second formed by a machine tool company, the first being the
HEAT Blog formed by Makino in 2006. This blog will take over for the HEAT blog,
though its content will include many topics related to EDM, not just a
particular technological advance.
What’s a blog?
A blog is a website where a speaker or speakers discuss topics and entries are
displayed in reverse chronological order. In the case of the EDM Blog, Jeff
Kiszonas of Makino will post thoughts on EDM technologies, case studies, customer
challenges, and other issues related to EDM on the blog every few days. The
format also allows outside users to post comments or ask questions, to be
responded by Kiszonas or one of Makino’s other applications engineers.
In addition to chronological postings, individual topics of interest will be
categorized. These include ways to increase EDM speed, improve surface finish,
and many other topics.
EDMmatters.com will become a resource for EDM information and a place for EDM
users to post questions, success stories, and interact with Makino’s team of
EDM applications engineers.
Why a blog?
“Most people don’t associate internet tools like blogs and webinars with
manufacturing,” said Mark Rentschler, Makino’s marketing manager. “Makino has
found that machinists, shop owners, and engineers utilize Internet tools daily
as sources of new information and ways to discuss their machining challenges.”
Makino’s online seminar program is an example of this trend, and has helped the
company improve customer interaction.
“Blogs are simply another way for Makino to put our unmatched team of
applications engineers and product specialists in front of EDM users,” added
Rentschler.
The blog is hosted at EDMmatters.com, and is open to the public beginning
February 2008. Anyone is welcome to view the content and post comments,
questions, and suggest ideas for future posts.
