Both 3+2 and simultaneous 5 axis machining will be discussed using a unique pyramid fixture equipped to handle 4 parts simultaneously, which maximizes spindle utilization and minimizes the setup time required per part. Makino's new D500 5 axis vertical machining center will be utilized to machine both Die and Mold cavities as well as lifters and inserts. Reduction in tool overhangs and improved performance will be illustrated.
