BELLY WIZARD

Makino's BellyWIZARD™ is an exclusive Makino technology that provides increases in part straightness of up to 40%. The result is a straighter part produced with fewer passes than conventional WIRE EDM technology. This technology automatically selects the optimum machining parameters for those applications that require exceptionally straight parts, top to bottom.

The objective of BellyWIZARD™ is to utilize Wire EDM technologies and processes to meet today’s manufacturing demands for lower costs, reduced lead-times, and tighter tolerances.

Reduce Belly/Bow
One of the most difficult challenges faced by Wire EDM operators is the machining of vertically straight work pieces to very close tolerances. Inaccuracies are usually at their worst in the center of the vertical span of a work piece. These inaccuracies are typically stated as a “Belly” or “Bow” in the work piece. 90% of this error occurs during the initial rough cut operation.

The advantage to using BellyWIZARD™ Wire EDM technology is that it reduces the belly or bow in work pieces during these roughing operations. By reducing the belly or bow in the rough cut, thus cutting closer to final net shape, this technology will reduce or eliminate the need for additional skim pass machining. When skim pass machining is necessary to achieve finer surface finishes, BellyWIZARD™ helps to reduce the total cycle time and consumable costs by reducing the amount of error (belly/bow) and remaining material on the final part, thus leading to faster skimming times.

Compensation
The result is more efficient Wire EDM operation which is seamless, as the technology is built into the E-code. BellyWIZARD™ parameters change automatically with work piece height. The technology also compensates for changes in the wire caused by eroded wear and wire lag. Compensation is done by automatically machining on a slight taper in the rough cut, and through adaptive servo movements. BellyWIZARD™ produces straighter and more accurate parts without having to increase wire consumption rates which saves money! The improvement in part straightness can be as much as 40% over conventional Wire EDM technology. This reduces both total cycle time and production costs, making your shop more profitable!
