A 5-axis version of the popular A66E machine, the A66E-5XD can machine complicated shapes in half the time of conventional 5-axis processes in the production of aerospace components such as blisks, inducers, impellers and turbine engine parts. It has a tool-to-tool time of 0.9 to 1.1 seconds and a chip-to-chip time of 2.9 seconds. The large, direct drive motor of the rotary table provides excellent high-speed operation to eliminate backlash and wear. The Makino A66E-5XD has an exceptional travel capacity and work zone for a machine in this class. 5-axis design permits the A66E-5XD to blend exceptional acceleration characteristics and minimal vibration with high-speed spindle utilization, especially when milling tough, heat-resistant alloys such as inconel, titanium and stainless steel.

Additional Information

Process Advantages:

  • Complex finishing operations cut in half the time of traditional methods
    • Direct Drive (DD) B and C Axis has superior acceleration and deceleration to accomplish finish operations in half the time.
    • Advanced motion control technology (SGI.4) processes complex tool path data faster with no loss of accuracy.
    • True five axis motion achieves commanded feedrate, 200ipm net feed rate in finishing operations.
    • Tool length can be shortened for complex roughing and finishing operations.
    • DD motors deliver three times higher torque than traditional methods, improving rigidity required for roughing operations.
    • TiAlN coated carbide tools are applied for roughing and finishing operations to drive tool life and productivity up.
  • Additional Technology Considerations:
    • APC available for elimination of setup time.
    • B and C axis rotor, stator and housing are temperature controlled to provide superior thermal stability and part accuracy.
    • DD motors on B and C axes enable feed rates up to 75 rpm and 150 rpm respectively.
