Makino showcases advanced machines, multiple new technologies in Experience Zone #2348
MASON, OHIO – September 2011 – Makino demonstrates its new products and machining technologies at the 2011 Interactive Manufacturing Experience (imX) show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Sept. 12-14. New machines and unique process solutions are going to be displayed in the Makino Experience Zone #2348 and learning labs are scheduled to be held in #2362.
“This event is entirely new to the industry, and we’re looking forward to having manufacturers visit our experience zone and attend our learning labs to see the latest innovations that Makino has to offer and discuss a variety of industry issues and solutions with our experts,” says Mark Rentschler, Makino marketing manager. “Makino hopes imX attendees will ‘learn more so they can earn more’ by bringing new information back to the shop and implementing new strategies to grow their business, improve productivity and substantially increase their bottom line.”
New Machines and Featured Processes
Makino will be introducing the new PS-Series vertical machining centers at imX 2011. Makino’s new PS-Series machines are the new standard in vertical machining centers for production machining, offering a reduction in cycle time, increased productivity, improved quality and minimization of capital investment. With the power of a Makino horizontal machining center in a vertical platform, the PS-Series is fully equipped and ready to tackle all parts and materials.
Makino will also be discussing its latest research and developments in titanium machining, including ADVANTiGE™ technologies. By improving spindle performance, coolant delivery, vibration damping, machine rigidity and cutting strategies, ADVANTiGE is capable of four times the productivity and four times the tool life of conventional machining technologies. Attendees are going to have the opportunity to discuss Makino’s Ti ADVANTiGE technologies and view part samples created with the new T-Series, purpose-built 5-axis horizontal machining centers.
In addition to the new machines, Makino has several demonstrations on tap throughout the show. Demonstrations are noted below:
• Ferrous part machining on the a61nx horizontal machining center
• Machining of carbides and other hardened materials on the UPV3 oil dielectric wire EDM
• The EDAF2 FH sinker EDM performing fine-hole machining
• Submicron machining accuracy of the iQ300 precision micromachining center
In addition to the displays in Makino’s Experience Zone at imX, Makino is slated to host learning lab events each day of the show that will include presentations from Makino engineers. These sessions are explained in more detail below:
Makino’s ADVANTiGE Technologies Improve Titanium Milling
Demand for titanium continues to climb to new heights alongside increasing orders for newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft. Makino’s ADVANTiGE machining technology is set to change the way manufacturers think about titanium machining. This advanced process solution is composed of several key machining technologies for a degree of machining efficiency that no other titanium technology has offered in the past. In this learning lab session, manufacturers can learn about these new technologies and see actual part examples, and tooling and cutting methods that illustrate the improved performance actually achieved.
Micromachining/Ultra-Precision Feature Technology
Electronic components, medical devices and optical products continue to decrease in size and increase in demand. As applications grow in complexity and shrink in size, Makino provides the milling and EDM solutions necessary to bring ideas from design to production. During this learning lab, attendees are going to learn more about micromachining and obtain technical assistance to foster innovation and the engineering of new products.
Expanding Your Capabilities in Ferrous Machining
Attendees of this session can learn how to take ferrous production part manufacturing to new, even higher levels of productivity and efficiency through cycle-time reduction, increased spindle utilization and new cast-iron part-processing techniques.
The New PS-Series: The Productivity of a Makino HMC in a Vertical Platform
This session focuses on Makino’s new PS-Series machines, which offer the perfect combination of speed, power, torque and flexibility for today’s competitive job-shop environment. The PS-Series features a field-proven design with key technologies from several of Makino’s most reliable production machines. Its rigid construction, thermal stability and versatile spindle are ideal for a variety of applications, including automotive, aerospace, medical and other small-component manufacturing applications.
