Mason, OH – June 23, 2016 – Makino announces its plans to share the latest machining and process solutions for aerospace manufacturing July 11-15 at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow in Hampshire, England. The company is slated to host discussions at its business chalet, C4, regarding new technologies specifically for blades and vanes, machining small to mid-size aluminum structural parts and large titanium parts.

Blade and Vanes
Makino’s EDBV-Series EDM hole-drilling machines are specifically designed for the production of film cooling holes and diffuser shapes in aerospace blades and vane segments. It provides aerospace manufacturers with the speed, flexibility and reliability to effectively produce a wide range of hole shapes and sizes within a single setup.
 
The G5 and G7 5-axis horizontal machining centers enable aerospace manufacturers to switch from milling to grinding of aerospace blades, vanes, turbine disks and other complex applications in one machining platform. The multi-functionality of these machines allows several operations in a single setup, eliminating out-of-cut time that adds to costs and lead-time.
 
Aluminum Structural Parts
Recognized as a global standard in 5-axis machining of monolithic aluminum structural parts, the Makino MAG-Series horizontal machining centers provide high-speed, high-precision performance for parts ranging from 1.5 meters to 20 meters (59.0 inches to 787.4 inches), allowing aerospace suppliers to right size the equipment to their needs. The MAG-Series’ standard 33,000 RPM spindle delivers 120 kW of power, providing for peak metal removal rates of 8.5 cubic liters per minute (518 cubic inches per minute). Designed with a compact rotary A-axis with ±110 degrees of travel and infinite C-axis rotation, the A/C housing supports the spindle with a compact pivot distance, facilitating full five sided machining of large components. MAG-Series machines are also equipped with large tool magazines, standard pallet changers and efficient chip removal systems to eliminate unproductive non-cut time. To further enhance the productive capabilities of these machines through unattended operation, Makino has designed the MAG-Series to be fully compatible with the MMC2 linear pallet pool system.
 
The T1 5-axis horizontal machining center is purpose-built for parts of any shape and any material and shares much of the ADVANTiGE™ technologies that were introduced with the larger purpose-built T2 and T4 machines. Built for high-efficiency machining across a wide range of applications, the T1 machine’s rigid design, versatile cutting capabilities and sizable work envelope make it an ideal fit for aerospace job-shop environments, where machining of both aluminum and titanium is required.
 
Large Titanium Structural Parts
Makino’s T2 and T4 5-axis horizontal machining centers dramatically increase titanium-milling efficiency, combining lean manufacturing methods and increased metal-removal rates. They are specifically designed for the production of large titanium and titanium-alloy aerospace parts such as edge frames, pylons and bulkheads. The T2 and T4 include several key elements for efficient titanium milling, including a high-torque, high-powered spindle, and a high-pressure, high-flow coolant system for increased speed and productivity.
