Makino Japan Facilities Update

Mason, Ohio – March 23, 2011 – Makino’s facilities are all up and operating.  With our production facilities south of the Tokyo area, we are experiencing rolling blackouts for 4 hours at a time. There has been numerous aftershocks and additional earthquakes in the region, which have been felt by our people at the factories. But they have not caused any damage or disruptions. Train and bus transportation was a challenge during this past week, as a reduced schedule was being operated to conserve electricity.

As the electrical blackouts become more predictable, Makino will shift work schedules into the evening to minimize any impact to machine shipments.  Though none of our assembly plants were damaged, we have experienced some delays from our suppliers, most notably, those north of Tokyo area.  We are working to find solutions to these issues.

We have been shipping machines from the factory to our embarkation port in Yokohama, which is open and operating reasonably close to normal.  There have been some minor delays, which is to be expected.  At this point in time, we do not expect any significant delays in our customer ordered machines, as we will delay unsold units to focus on those machine already ordered by a Makino customer.

In the coming week, Makino will settle into a long term operating plan, following this terrible disaster,  and we can provide more detailed updates.
