1937 Tsunezo Makino establishes the company

1942 Company name changed to Makino Vertical Milling Machine Works

1950 Joint project with General Electric produces first continuous-path, numerically controlled (NC) lathe, a major step in the development of flexible manufacturing

1951 Reorganizes as joint stock company capitalized at 3 million yen

1953 Develops a super-precision universal cutter and tool grinder

1958 Develops Japan's first NC milling machine1953 Develops a super-precision universal cutter and tool grinder

1960 Special software group forms for training and assisting customers in applying new "NC" technology

1961 Company name changed to Makino Milling Machine Co., Ltd.

1964 Company listed on the Second Section of Tokyo Stock Exchange, capitalized at 200 million yen

1966 Develops Japan's first machining center

1967 Atsugi Works begins operations following completion of first phase of construction

1970 Company expands operations internationally, building a new plant and foundry in Singapore

1971 Company listed on the First Section of Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges, capitalized at 1 billion yen

1972 Develops transfer line (FMS) consisting of adaptive control machining centers

1973 LeBlond Machine Tool Co. founds Asia facility (presently Makino Asia) to build lathes

1976 Develops the FNC-A-Series of vertical machining centers

1977 Makino Technical Service Co.,Ltd., established and Makino Lease Co.,Ltd., formed in September of the following year.

1978 Acquires interest in Heidenreich & Harbeck, Germany

1980 Completes development of NC electrical discharge machine

1981 Acquires LeBlond Machine Tool Company in the U.S., changing name to LeBlond Makino Machine Tool Company and launching local production of Makino machine tools

1982 Develops the DMS Commercial Automatic Die and Mold Machining System

1983 Makino’s Flexible Manufacturing System factory starts operation

1984 Introduces the industry's first high-speed spindle

1984 Develops the first 5-axis controlled machining center

1986 Introduces the first Intelligent Adaptive Control System

1986 Develops the Module MMC (Makino Machining Complex)

1987 Fuji Katsuyama Works completed and begins operations

1989 Introduces the A55, revolutionizing horizontal machining centers

1990 R&D Center becomes operational

1990 Introduces Geometric Intelligence, the first servo-control software to provide higher machining speed with enhanced accuracy

1990 Develops Flush Fine machining, a revolutionary method for cutting hardened materials

1993 Establishes Makino J Co., Ltd., and forms Makino Wiring Co.,Ltd., in March of the following year

1994 Introduces award-winning, high-precision "U-Series Drop-Tank Wire EDM"

1995 Shipments of the A55 Horizontal Machining Center surpass 1,000 units

1995 Makino Aerospace Group Launched

1996 Develops 3-D die/mold CAD/CAM system

1996 Introduces HQSF™ (High-Quality Surface Finish) technology with patented uSc additive

1996 Officially changes North American corporate identity from LeBlond Makino to Makino

1997 Tech Transfer facility expansion completed in North America

1999 Heidenreich & Harbeck reorganizes into three corporations.  Makino GmbH becomes the holding company for the European operation

1999 Introduced the V33 vertical machining center, one of the best-selling VMCs

2001 Introduced the a51 Horizontal Machining Center

2002 European company named changed to Makino GmbH (business units Die& Mold/Production Machinery). Established of Makino Europe GmbH

2002 Introduces EdCAM™ offline software for programming and automating EDM machinery

2002 New North American Die/Mold headquarters opens in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit

2003 Makino Research and Development Center becomes operational

2003 Develops the MAG series of 5-axis aerospace machines

2003 Introduces world's first conventional horizontal wire EDM (UPJ-2) that automatically threads machines with a 0.02mm diameter wire

2004 Introduces new, technologically advanced Professional 5 (Pro 5) High Performance Control

2006 Develops H.E.A.T. for wire EDMs, increasing machining speed by up to 40 percent

2006 Makino launches free online seminar series

2007 Develops the SurfaceWIZARD™ wire EDM technology, which allows for the elimination of witness lines in stepped parts

2007 Introduces G5 horizontal machining center, capable of grinding, drilling, boring and milling on one machine

2008 Expanded Fuji Katsuyama Works and develops focused large machine assembly area

2008 Introduces MAG1 and D500 5-axis machining centers

2008 Releases DUO-Series wire EDMs, capable of 30 percent faster cutting while using up to 60 percent less wire

2009 Develops ADVANTiGE-enabled titanium machining with the T2 and T4 horizontal machining centers, delivering four times the productivity and four times the tool life of conventional

2009 Makino broadcasts 100th online seminar

2010 Develops the a51nx and a61nx horizontal machining centers

2010 Introduces ADVANTiGE™-enabled titanium machining with the T2 and T4 horizontal machining centers, delivering four times the productivity and double the tool life over conventional machining technologies

2010 Establishes Titanium R&D center in Mason, Ohio

2011 Develops PS-Series, the new standard in production vertical machining centers

2012 Fujiyoshida plant completed and begins operations

2012 ADVANTiGE titanium technology recognized as winner of Aviation Week's 2012 Innovation Challenge

2012 Launches new line of large aluminum machining centers for structural aerospace parts, the A-Series

2013 Introduction of the U-Series Wire EDM with HyperCut technology
