Makino Partners with Miami University and Butler Tech to Launch Advanced Manufacturing Workforce and Innovation Hub

-- Makino is pleased to announce the Makino Subtractive Lab at Miami University

MASON, OH, FEBRUARY 16, 2026 – Makino, a global leader in advanced machining solutions, has announced a new partnership with Miami University and Butler Tech to establish the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce and Innovation Hub (AM HUB), featuring the Makino Subtractive Lab on Miami University’s Hamilton, Ohio campus.

The AM Hub is designed to deliver hands-on, real-world machining experience using Makino production-level equipment and advanced manufacturing technologies, preparing students and workforce participants with the skills required for modern manufacturing environments.

As the technology anchor of the hub, Makino collaborated with the education institutions to provide industry-leading machining solutions that reflect the same systems, processes and performance standards used by manufacturers today. The Makino Subtractive Lab allows participants to gain direct experience with precision machining, automation-ready workflows and best practices aligned with real production demands.

“At Makino, developing the next generation of manufacturing talent is critical to the future of our industry,” said Peter Hoecklin, CEO, Makino Inc. “This partnership with Miami University and Butler Tech creates a powerful learning environment where students and professionals can build practical skills on the same equipment they will encounter on the shop floor.”

The AM HUB supports workforce development across multiple education levels by integrating academic learning with technical training, off-campus experiences and networking opportunities. Butler Tech’s involvement strengthens the connection between vocational training, secondary education, higher education and industry, creating clear pathways into advanced manufacturing careers.

The Advanced Manufacturing Workforce and Innovation Hub reflect Makino’s ongoing commitment to innovation, education and workforce development, while supporting regional manufacturers’ access to highly skilled, job-ready talent.
